‘Fourth mistake this season’: Khanye raises alarm over Kaizer Chiefs keeper Petersen

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has slammed goalkeeper Brandon Petersen following Amakhosi’s 1-1 draw with Polokwane City on Saturday afternoon.

Despite taking an early lead, Chiefs conceded a late equaliser to drop two points at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Lebohang Maboe opened the scoring for the Glamour Boys in the first half, but Giovanni Philander’s second-half equaliser was the major talking point.

The goal came in the 73rd minute after Petersen failed to deal with Philander’s touch following a free kick, allowing Polokwane City to get back into the match.

Speaking after the game, Khanye placed the blame firmly on the Chiefs captain and believes his mistake ultimately cost the Soweto giants all three points.

Petersen blamed for Chiefs losing points

“I’m very disappointed in the goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. When he joined Kaizer Chiefs, he was like this. He has improved a bit, which is expected due to his age. He is a seasoned player in the Betway Premiership,” Khanye said on Soccerbeat.

“Going back to the game, I think it’s the fourth mistake he has made this season which cost the team. That ball at the near post, he was supposed to clear it with his leg. Attack the ball and clear it for a corner.

“Because if you allow the ball to bounce in front of you, then it means you’re poor. The keeper made a blunder which brought Polokwane City back into the game.”

Petersen has come under increasing scrutiny this season, with the Chiefs goalkeeper already making several costly errors that have resulted in goals.

Following another mistake against Polokwane City, questions will now be raised over whether the 31-year-old will retain his place in goal when Kaizer Chiefs return to action.
