Translate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, with 12 candidates listed for Plateau State’s three senatorial districts.

The list features prominent political figures, including former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, former senator Simon Mwadkwon and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Solomon Dalung.

In Plateau North, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nominated Mr Mwadkwon, who previously contested the senatorial seat in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He will face Rose Mwanti of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Musa Bature of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Dalyop Gwottson of the PDP.

In Plateau Central, the APC has fielded Bitrus Kasuwa, who will contest against Yusuf Bello of the ADC, Yusuf Ishaku of the NDC and Timothy Golu of the PDP.

The incumbent senator representing the district, Diket Plang of the APC, is notably absent from the Plateau Central entries in the published list.

Mr Plang has represented the district since June 2023, following his victory in the 2023 general election.

In Plateau South, Mr Lalong is the APC candidate. He will contest against Mr Dalung of the ADC, Peter Dandam of the NDC and Johnbull Shekarau of the PDP.

Mr Lalong won the Plateau South senatorial seat in 2023 on the APC platform after serving two terms as governor of the state.

Mr Dalung, who served as minister of youth and sports development under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is seeking reelection to the Senate on the ADC platform.

The published list indicates that candidates from 21 political parties are contesting the 109 Senate seats nationwide.

However, the Plateau State entries reviewed for this report contain candidates from the four parties listed above.

The names and party affiliations are based on published accounts of INEC’s final candidate list.
