Ranbir Kapoor says India “did it 5,000 years ago” as he compares Ramayana’s Pushpaka Vimana to Elon Musk’s flying car

'Ramayana' is set to release next week, and all eyes are on the film. As the release nears, the cast has been out promoting it. Ranbir Kapoor, Ravie Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Yash and director Nitesh Tiwari came together for an interview to discuss the journey of adapting the epic for the screen.

Ranbir Kapoor on Elon Musk’s flying car and ancient India

During the chat with Star Talks, the host remarked on how remarkable the weapons of that era were, saying they could rival modern inventions, and she also praised the VFX by Academy Award-winning studio DNEG (Double Negative). Nitesh said it was wonderful to reimagine those creations on screen. Ranbir chipped in, “Elon Musk recently invented a flying car. I think India did it 5,000 years ago!”.

What is the Pushpaka Vimana in 'Ramayana'

The Pushpaka Vimana is a mythical self-propelled aerial chariot, or flying palace, described in the Hindu epic 'Ramayana'.

It was among the visuals that stood out in the trailer, appearing as a massive flying structure.

How 'Ravana' got the Pushpaka Vimana

According to Hindu mythology, Vishwakarma, the celestial architect, built the Vimana for Lord Brahma, who then presented it to Kubera, the god of wealth and Ravana’s half-brother. Ravana, however, seized it from Kubera after defeating him. The epic describes the Pushpaka Vimana as a flying palace that travels at the speed of thought and can expand to hold any number of passengers.
