Chris Evans' new movie features him as a character that completely flips his most famous film role, making the Netflix release even more engaging. With a film history that goes back to 1997 - via the educational film Biodiversity: Wild About Life! - it's no surprise that Chris Evans has featured in a range of movies that audiences associate with the actor, especially since he's something of a household name today.
Chris Evans' history as a leading man and action hero has been cemented over the course of many roles, but his most famous is, of course, that of Steve Rogers, the first Captain America in the MCU timeline, and one of the most famous superheroes of all time both on the inked page and in the world of movies.
However, the fame Chris Evans enjoys for the role doesn't just help the MCU's overall popularity, and increase the prospective audience interest in Avengers: Doomsday thanks to his impending return. Evans being associated with his performance as Steve Rogers also helps to make movies that put the actor in a very different role more interesting because of how they contrast with his most famous character, as is evidenced by one Netflix movie that released on October 16.
Sacrifice Takes Chris Evans From Playing An MCU Hero To Playing A Sacrifical Lamb
Chris Evans' reputation as Captain America makes his role within 2026's Sacrifice notably more interesting. Rather than being a conventional golden boy action hero, Sacrifice sees Chris Evans play Mike Tyler, a film star attempting a comeback before he's then kidnapped by Anya Taylor-Joy's Joan. Joan is part of a group who believes that sacrificing three people from a celebrity event Tyler is attending to a volcano is the only way to prevent the end of the world, making his life substantially more complicated.
As such, Chris Evans goes from being a self-sacrificing hero in the MCU to being a reluctant prospective forced sacrifice, with Mike Tyler having seemingly no experience with heroism outside of his fictional in-universe on-screen appearances, but who is determined to try and escape his impending doom nonetheless.
Sacrifice Continues A Fascinating Chris Evans Acting Trend
Chris Evans' career around the MCU has been intriguing both because the actor has had such a major role in one of the biggest film franchises of all time, and because he's gone to considerable efforts to avoid being typecast entirely in Steve Rogers-esque roles with his wider filmography.
Sacrifice is the latest example of this, but it's by no means the only one. Knives Out provides another prime example, as Evans' Hugh "Ransom" Drysdale is intentionally one of the most unlikable and antagonistic members of the wealthy family the film centers around, which worked especially well for the 2019 film given it released around the time of Avengers: Endgame.
With Chris Evans having appeared in a range of different roles that are very much at odds with his time as Captain America, it's clear the actor's efforts are focused on building a filmography that displays a wide range of his talents within a similarly wide range of genres, which seems for the best for Evans and the world of movies alike.
