MELAKA: Perikatan Nasional candidate Muhammad Ridzuan Mohd Sarif received a morale boost from the presence of Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang during his first appearance as a candidate.

Hadi arrived at 9.21am but did not join the march, while nearly 1,000 supporters, including those from Barisan Nasional (BN), accompanied Ridzuan to the nomination centre at Dewan Tun Ali.

Ridzuan, a Pas Hang Tuah Jaya division committee member, was accompanied by several coalition leaders, including PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

Also present were MP Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim and Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden.

As of 9.30am, the Bukit Katil state seat was set for a four-cornered contest.

Apart from Ridzuan, a former head of the Inspection and Legal Unit at the Melaka State Health Department, the seat will also be contested by two-term incumbent Adly Zahari, representing Pakatan Harapan (PH), Bersama candidate Dr Aliza Che Amran and independent candidate Abu Bakar Sabudi, 65.

The four candidates entered the hall to submit their nomination papers, with Adly leading the way at 9am.
