SAPS in Western Cape receive 175 new vehicles

Translate

The festive season is fast approaching. In preparation for this busy period, during which crime levels rise, new operational vehicles have been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape.

As part of the province’s recently launched Festive Season Operations, a total of 175 vehicles were delivered to six districts within the province.

NEW VEHICLES PROVIDE ‘MUCH-NEEDED’ BOOST FOR SAPS

Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, expressed her approval over SAPS receiving these vehicles.

“These additional vehicles were a much-needed boost to policing capacity, enabling greater police visibility, improved response times and more effective service delivery to communities across the province,” said Marais.

She added, “Strong co-operation between SAPS and other law enforcement agencies is essential. We must ensure that these additional vehicles and available operational resources are used efficiently and strategically to achieve the greatest possible impact on the ground.”

STAY CAUTIOUS DURING CHRISTMAS

Silly season coincides with the Christmas holidays. As such, there is an uptick in crimes across the country during this time. This is particularly where burglaries, shoplifting and DUIs are concerned.

While SAPS are working alongside the likes of Cape Town Metro Police, LEAP and other law enforcement agencies to mitigate crime during this period, Marais is calling on Western Cape residents to also “play their part.”

“I urge residents and visitors to play their part in keeping our communities safe,” she urged. “Share information about criminal activity with law enforcement, support crime-fighting efforts and remain vigilant.

“I also call on everyone to exercise caution, obey the law and behave responsibly throughout the festive period. Safety is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play in ensuring that our communities and visitors can enjoy a safer festive season.”

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON SAPS’ NEW VEHICLES?

With the handover of these 175 vehicles, here’s hoping SAPS will respond effectively to security challenges over the festive season. That way, Western Cape residents can enjoy a safer holiday period this year.
