Troops capture terrorist commanders in Katsina

Troops of the Armed Forces operating under Operation Fansan Yamma, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have captured suspected commanders of a terrorist group allegedly linked to the kidnapping and killing of Major General Abubakar Rabe in Katsina State.

Sources said the operation was conducted on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and resulted in the capture of several senior members of the group identified as “Kachalla Maha.”

One of those apprehended was reportedly Samagi, identified as one of the group’s senior commanders and a key figure in its operational structure.

The operation involved troops working with local vigilantes, who reportedly provided intelligence and support in tracking the suspects through difficult terrain.

The captured suspects are alleged to have played prominent roles in the activities of the Kachalla Maha group, which has been accused of involvement in kidnapping, killings and other violent attacks in parts of the North-West.

Their capture is expected to provide security agencies with intelligence on the group’s leadership structure, operational methods, hideouts, supply networks and possible collaborators.

The reported killing of Major General Rabe had heightened concerns over the activities of armed terrorist groups and the security threats facing military personnel and civilians in the North-West.

Security forces have continued operations against terrorist groups and other armed criminal elements in areas of operation, with the objective of restricting their movement and disrupting their ability to carry out attacks and kidnappings.

The latest arrests could also assist ongoing intelligence-gathering efforts and help security agencies trace other members of the network and establish their alleged links to previous attacks.

The suspects are expected to undergo further investigation to determine their individual roles in the activities of the Kachalla Maha group and establish their possible involvement in other violent incidents in Katsina and neighbouring states.
