India’s Nitesh Siwach entered the final in the Men’s Greco-Roman 97kg event at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday.

In the semifinal, Nitesh outclassed Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganbaatar 9-0 to earn a victory by technical superiority.

In the final, the 23-year-old Indian will take on Japan’s Yuri Nakazato, with the bout scheduled to happen at 3:35 p.m IST on Thursday.

If Nitesh is to beat Nakazato, he will become the first Indian to win an Asiad gold in the Greco-Roman wrestling in 64 years.

Ganpat Andalkar is the first and only Indian to win a Greco-Roman wrestling gold medal in Asian Games.

At the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, Andalkar won the Men’s Greco-Roman +97 kg title, in addition to the silver medal he claimed in freestyle wrestling in the same weight category.

India has already won a Greco-Roman wrestling medal in Aich-Nagoya through Sunil Kumar, who bagged bronze in the men’s 87kg event.
