The Gentlemen favourite teases his unexpected "puppy dog" dynamic in new show Kill Jackie

Known for his roles in The Gentlemen and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Daniel Ings is taking on a new kind of role in revenge thriller Kill Jackie.

The upcoming Prime Video series sees Ings star as Sam, a straight-laced lawyer who works for Jackie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) but finds himself embroiled in her international assassin plot as he too has to go on the run for his life.

Where Jackie is a seasoned pro at tackling these kinds of issues head-on and not running away in fear, the same can't really be said of Sam, who isn't quite used to life in the fast lane.

But it's the dynamic between Jackie and Sam that will leave many fans intrigued, with the two somewhat polar opposites developing their own complicated chemistry.

Teasing what's to come with their characters' dynamic, Ings told Radio Times: "Well, it's fun because there's this element that Jackie Price, who is rich and glamorous and dangerous and contains multitudes, becomes a puppy dog around this this geeky, buttoned-up tax lawyer who seems somewhat oblivious and then somewhat frustrated by it again.

"There was something really sort of charming and comedic about that. I think it meant that we could play this sort of moonlighting dynamic, but in a different way."

Ings added: "I felt like I hadn't seen that or played that before. It was so fun to play this guy who is just pissed off and frustrated by the whole thing slowly begins to be like, ‘Okay, it does feel does feel kind of good to hold an Uzi.’"

Zeta-Jones leads the cast as Jackie Price, a glamorous art dealer with a lethal past who becomes the target of a squad of assassins known as The Seven Demons. The rest of the cast includes Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen), Óscar Jaenada (Cantinflas), Hattie Hook (Ten Pound Poms), Darci Shaw (A Thousand Blows) and Raff Law (Masters of the Air).

Enzo Cilenti (Black Mirror), Christine Adams (Hijack), Julian Rhind-Tutt (Britannia), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Gavin Spokes (Slow Horses), Jonathan Cake (And Just Like That), Bill Paterson (Fleabag) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy) also round out the ensemble.

The official synopsis for Kill Jackie reads: "Jackie Price (Zeta-Jones) has been living a luxurious existence for the last twenty years – travelling the world, selling fine art and, above all, trying to stay anonymous after escaping a dangerous past as an international drug smuggler.

"But just as life starts to feel a little boring, it takes a sudden lethal turn when she discovers that The Seven Demons, a squad of the world’s most terrifying hitmen, have been hired to kill her."

It continues: "Assuming someone from her past is behind it, Jackie unleashes her old instincts and embarks on a wild, dangerous game plan: to take down The Demons one by one before they kill her.

"However, she soon realises her own demons are much more terrifying than the ruthless killers on her trail… and her buried secrets lead her closer to home, with surprising consequences."
