Woodside Energy (WDS) said Sunday that operations remained paused at a floating production unit at its $12.5B Scarborough natural gas project off the coast of Western Australia following a Greenpeace protest at the platform.
Four activists on Saturday scaled the 70K metric ton unit and displayed banners expressing concerns about the potential impact of Woodside's (WDS) proposed Browse project on Scott Reef, a remote coral system and foraging area for the endangered pygmy blue whale.
The company has said it expects no physical contact with the reef above the 75 meter (246 ft) water depth.
The Scarborough project is 98% complete and poised to supply 8M metric tons/year of liquefied natural gas and up to 6M cm/day of gas to the domestic market, with offshore field development centered on the floating production unit.
Before this weekend's interruption, Woodside (WDS) had been on track to ship its first LNG cargo before year-end, and gas is already flowing from the offshore wells into the floater.
