The Golden State Warriors will take on the Phoenix Suns in Mortgage Matchup Center on Saturday, October 24, at 10:00 PM EST as two teams search for their first victory of the season. The Phoenix Suns are looking to rebound from a 41-point loss in their season opener. The Warriors come into this one after a brutal loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Warriors had a 12-point lead with less than four minutes to go but lost 111-108 after a 17-0 run. Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors had little time to process another ugly loss before Stephen Curry had more disappointing news.

Stephen Curry Injury Update: Golden State Warriors Star Likely to Miss Phoenix Suns Matchup

Stephen Curry is not expected to play for the Golden State Warriors against the Phoenix Suns. The Warriors are being cautious with the veteran guard early in the regular season, trying to ease him into the schedule. Curry reportedly said after Friday's game that he would likely miss the matchup. Without him, his team would lack its best offensive weapon against the Suns.

The decision has been made with the team prioritizing his health and workload during the early part of the campaign. Curry was brief when asked about playing in Phoenix during his postgame news conference.

"Probably not, but I'll talk to the staff," he said.

When a reporter asked whether the decision involved his body or energy level, the 38-year-old smiled.

"I think you know the answer to that," he said.

Curry last played against the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 24 points in 30 minutes of a 111-108 loss. He also had four assists and two rebounds, continuing to shoulder a major offensive load for Golden State. The Warriors' next game is Tuesday, October 27 against the Denver Nuggets. Sitting Curry against Phoenix would allow more recovery time before that matchup. But his availability for the Denver game will be determined based on the team's ongoing evaluation and workload management.

Stephen Curry's Injury History: Ankle, Knee and Hamstring Problems Throughout His NBA Career

Stephen Curry has faced injuries in his NBA career, including a right ankle sprain in October 2026 during an open team practice. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was reportedly told Curry was fine shortly after the incident. The veteran guard has also had a history of knee and ankle issues, including a hamstring injury that limited his availability during the postseason. These setbacks have forced Golden State to keep a close eye on his minutes and physical health.

Curry has experienced a few big setbacks in his injury history before. He had knee problems in 2023-24 and was out of action for 10 games due to lower-leg ligament tears in 2022-23. He played 58 games in 2019-20 with a broken left hand. He also sat out 31 games in 2017-18 with ankle and MCL knee sprains and then a right knee MCL sprain in the 2015-16 playoffs. He underwent multiple surgeries and played only 26 games in 2011-12 due to problems with his severe right ankle and foot earlier in his career.
