Indonesia eyes 5,600 tourist visits, US$7.17 million from TEJ 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s participation in Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ) 2026 in Tokyo generated potential visits from 5,600 tourists, with estimated potential foreign exchange earnings of US$7.168 million, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
“This achievement indicates a market opportunity that can be pursued by strengthening business communication and developing tour packages tailored to the interests of Japanese tourists,” the ministry’s Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said in a statement on Friday (October 2).
TEJ 2026 was held from September 24 to 27, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight. The expo brought together participants from 40 countries, with approximately 400 co-exhibitors, 500 booths, and more than 44,000 visitors.
Indonesia presented a 54-square-meter Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion, involving eight tourism industry players, Garuda Indonesia, Wendy Tour, Menjaga Bay Hotel, Kuno Villas, DMC White Tiger Bali, The Yoga Barn, Adventure Indonesia, and The Mulia Resorts & Villas.
In addition to promoting Indonesian destinations, the pavilion featured various interactive activities, including an Indonesia Coffee Corner serving coffee from Temanggung, Central Java, as well as cultural performances from Bali, North Sumatra, and East Nusa Tenggara.
The Ministry of Tourism also conducted a survey of 1,614 visitors to the Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion. The results showed that 63.3 percent of respondents had never visited Indonesia, while 36.7 percent had previously traveled to Indonesia.
Bali was the most popular destination, selected by 86.2 percent of respondents, followed by Komodo Island and Labuan Bajo at 5.3 percent, Borobudur at 4 percent, Raja Ampat at 1.7 percent, Lake Toba at 1.5 percent, and Lombok at 1.2 percent.
“These findings form the basis for strengthening Indonesia’s promotional strategy in Japan, particularly by utilizing Bali as a gateway to introduce other destinations,” Ni Made said.
Furthermore, the ministry is encouraging the development of tour packages combining Bali with several other destinations, such as Labuan Bajo, Yogyakarta, Manado, Lake Toba, and Lombok.
