Exclusive: Coronation Street plans special Debbie Webster episode

Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street bosses are planning to delve deeper into Debbie Webster's dementia story, as an emotional episode explores the world from her perspective.
Cobbles favourite Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie, has been busy picking up new behind-the-scenes skills on set as she prepares to film a very special episode…

"We're planning an episode where it's all from Debbie's point of view," revealed Sue, when we caught up with her on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards last month.
"I'm going to be the camera woman, so I'm very excited about that. I've said that I'll be like [ski jumper] Eddie the Eagle – running around with a camera on my head!"
She continued: "I've got to do training beforehand. We have a brilliant camera woman called Lisa. She's working on the scenes as well, so she'll be teaching me!"
Further details of the special won't be revealed until nearer the time, but we know that Corrie has already begun experimenting with its approach to Debbie's story in other episodes.
A few weeks ago, Toyah Battersby was even briefly recast for an eerie moment where Debbie was unable to recognise her neighbour.

Back in 2016, Emmerdale also used special filming and editing techniques for a powerful episode which explored Ashley Thomas's dementia entirely from his perspective.
Jonathan Howard, who plays Debbie's son Carl, recently revealed that his on-screen mum will be sticking around on the show until next year.
The actor confirmed that Sue is contracted until at least August 2027, which sparked speculation that this could be when the ending of Debbie's storyline will be filmed.
Jonathan noted that it'll be "very sad" when Corrie stars have to say goodbye to Sue, who's been widely praised for her performances in Debbie's story.
In the meantime, Vinta Morgan – who plays Debbie's husband Ronnie – has hinted that Christmas will feature some standout moments for the story.

"Christmas has got some beautiful scenes," he confirmed. "What the audience can get more of is that there's going to be some downs, but there's going to be some ups.
"There are going to be some moments where the audience will go, 'Oh, if they could just be trapped in that moment!' We'll let them stay in that moment for a bit, and then he's going to go on a roller-coaster ride where we're going to go down into the depths of some really dark stuff.
"Which is still going to have some light and love in it, of course, that's the whole thing that makes it excruciating. But it's really going to go into the realms of what the reality is like, really. We're not going to sugarcoat it – we're going to show it for what it is. Hopefully, it will develop conversations and help raise awareness."
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
