UMPSA's new landmark takes centre stage at 21st convocation

PEKAN: The newly-built Dewan Tuanku Canselor at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) will host its 21st convocation ceremony for the first time today, marking a historic milestone for the university.
The iconic hall features an architectural design inspired by Pahang's traditional 'wau pungguk' (a traditional kite originating from Pekan), reflecting the state's rich cultural heritage while symbolising UMPSA's aspirations to become a leading technical university.
Located at the Pekan campus, Dewan Tuanku Canselor was officially proclaimed by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, on Oct 21.
UMPSA Vice-Chancellor Professor Ts Dr Yatimah Alias said the completion of the convocation hall marked another significant milestone in the university's journey towards celebrating its Silver Jubilee on Feb 16, 2027.
She said construction of the hall began in March 2023 and that it could accommodate up to 3,500 people at a time, providing a larger venue for convocation ceremonies, conferences, seminars and other large-scale events.
Previously, UMPSA held its convocation ceremonies at the sports complex hall on its Gambang campus.
A total of 3,345 graduates are scheduled to receive their scrolls during the university's convocation ceremony, which runs from today (Oct 31) to Nov 3. They will be the first batch to cross the stage at the new landmark.
