The new Elsweyr expansion for The Elder Scrolls has been officially confirmed, and no, it is not a new Elder Scrolls Online release. Of course, with the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 likely still a few years away, the majority of the new releases related to the epic high fantasy franchise are often part of the MMORPG, ESO. Last year we did get the Oblivion remaster, but brand-new releases are rarer, and fans are having to rely on other experiences outside of video games to continue exploring Tamriel from a brand-new perspective.
Now, as highlighted in a post by Game Found, The Elder Scrolls franchise will get a new Elsweyr expansion, which is part of a much larger release, enabling fans to take on adventures in Tamriel in a new way. The new Elsweyr expansion is part of the larger The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era cooperative tabletop game, and it will allow players to venture into the homeland of the Khajiit. Not unlike the Elsweyr-themed expansion for ESO, players will be challenged by dragons across deserts and canyons.
The new board game for The Elder Scrolls is not a traditional TTRPG experience, but a guided tabletop adventure set in Tamriel, and the Elsweyr expansion takes place in the titular region. The core game, The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era, was released in 2025 by Chip Theory Games, but now, tons of new expansions are arriving for it, allowing players to significantly expand their experiences. In addition to the Elsweyr region expansion, Betrayal of the Second Era will also get the Summerset region expansion – both of them arrive in November 2026.
On top of the Elsweyr expansion for The Elder Scrolls board game, the Fur and Fang gameplay expansion will be released soon, enabling player characters to be affected by vampirism and lycanthropy. The Shadows of Oblivion gameplay expansion will be focused on the blessings and curses from Daedric Princes from across Tamriel’s pantheon. Of course, the Heroes of Tamriel gameplay expansion will likely be the largest of them all, featuring tons of new character customization options.
Despite the fact that the Heroes of Tamriel expansion for Elder Scrolls BotSE will be massive, the regional Elsweyr expansion will be a blast, especially if you take into consideration the fact that the region’s adaptation for Elder Scrolls Online went so well. In the MMORPG, players get to experience one of the most intriguing story arcs the game has offered so far – it’s one of political struggle and dragons. Despite how rich the franchise’s universe is, fighting dragons is always a top-tier element in The Elder Scrolls.
Of course, while not all encounters will be centered around dragons, their ever-prowling presence is certainly a risk. For that, you’ll be armed with two new class options, Thieves and Berserkers. On top of that, the Elsweyr expansion also unlocks the Medium Armor and Soul Magic skill trees, bringing more variety to your gameplay. If you’re a fan of tabletop experiences, these new expansions for The Elder Scrolls’ board game can’t be missed.
