Bake Off host Alison Hammond comforts Connie as fans say she was "robbed" of Star Baker

Tom may have been crowned Star Baker on tonight's Great British Bake Off but it was Connie who stole the hearts of viewers. The 63-year-old NHS worker used her Showstopper to pay tribute to Jamaica, following Hurricane Melissa that hit the island last year.

For the Showstopper, the bakers were tasked with making a Biscuit Mosaic, with Connie's representing the Jamaican flag.

Explaining her bake, Connie said: "I just wanted to do a flag with a little heart in the middle, just to say that we haven't forgotten you and our hearts are with you." After Connie began crying, she got a hug from host Alison Hammond.

Judge Nigella Lawson then told Connie: "You've managed to say an awful lot in what is a a simple and very powerful design. It has great majesty but there's also joy in it."

Connie's beautiful tribute was a big hit with fans online, with many thinking she deserved to be named Star Baker.

One fan posted on X: "How did Connie not get star baker???" while a second wrote: "Connie was robbed."

Tonight's episode also saw the first contestant of the season to be eliminated with Danni leaving the tent.

Following their exit Danni said: "I'm really happy that I was the first one out because I know everyone in there is more skilled than me."

They then added: "But I think I've learned something about myself which is that, in the right circumstances, I can make quite a few friends.

"Finding love in a group of strangers, that's just beautiful that There are people who do appreciate you, and can appreciate you, and will be your friend."

The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays on Channel 4 at 8pm.
