Freida McFadden's The Housemaid confirmed for stage adaptation – here's when it's coming to the West End

Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel The Housemaid has been confirmed for a brand-new stage adaptation going on tour next year.
The psychological thriller was recently adapted for a 2025 film starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney.
The stage version is making its world premiere at London's Richmond Theatre on 14 September 2027, before moving on to venues in Birmingham, Brighton, Edinburgh and more.
The play has been put together by screenwriter Bekah Brunstetter (Broadway’s The Notebook) and directed by Matthew Dunster (the Tony-nominated Hangmen). The stage adaptation is produced by Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska for production company Melting Pot (Life of Pi, Paranormal Activity) in association with Lionsgate.
Following the announcement, Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate’s president of global products and experiences, said: "With the stage play debuting next year and our sequel film in production, the momentum behind The Housemaid franchise continues to grow.

"We’re thrilled to work with Simon, Hanna, Bekah and Matthew to bring this story to the stage in an entirely new way, giving audiences the chance to experience its suspense, twists and turns live.”
Producer Simon Friend added: “Bekah’s adaptation of The Housemaid is exactly what we’d hoped for – a fresh and uniquely theatrical take on this wildly popular story, and made with Matthew Dunster's vision, it will certainly bring a thrilling new dimension to the franchise.”
The Housemaid movie hit the big screen in December 2025 and grossed over $400 million worldwide. Directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine and based on McFadden’s book, the film followed the story of Millie Calloway, an ex-convict who takes a live-in housekeeping job with the wealthy Winchester family, only to find the house's matriarch, Nina Winchester, has a few secrets.
