Oburu Oginga Travels To UK For Routine Medical Checkup, Assures ODM Of Strong Leadership

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader and Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga has confirmed that he has traveled to the United Kingdom for a comprehensive, routine medical checkup and a period of rest.

The clarification from Dr. Oburu comes shortly after the party’s secretariat confirmed his trip. ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed that the party leader is doing well abroad and is expected back in Kenya over the weekend.

Routine Assessment and Strategic Pause

In a formal statement, Dr. Oburu explained that the visit follows advice from both his medical team and party leadership to ensure a thorough evaluation of his health. He noted that taking a step back to address health routines naturally aligned with his advancing years and presented a strategic moment for the movement to demonstrate its institutional strength.

“This is a time of transition, where the Orange Democratic Movement is being tested on its readiness and preparedness on institutionalism. I welcome this test,” Oburu stated, emphasizing that a mature political movement must be built on resilient structures that operate seamlessly regardless of individual presence.

Interim Party Management

Dr. Oburu assured party members and supporters that internal mechanisms are in place to ensure day-to-day operations continue without interruption. During his absence, executive oversight of party activities remains in the hands of Deputy Party Leaders Paul Simba Arati (Kisii Governor) and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir (Mombasa Governor), alongside the National Central Committee and the party secretariat.
