Exclusive: Coronation Street confirms Todd's role in dramatic murder trial

Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce has confirmed plans for his character Todd Grimshaw to play a big role in Sarah Platt's trial episodes next month.
The ITV soap is lining up some dramatic court scenes as Sarah stands trial for Theo Silverton's murder – and the testimony of those closest to her could prove crucial.

Sarah killed Theo earlier this year, marking a dramatic end to the villain's domestic abuse storyline with Todd. In upcoming scenes, it'll be down to Sarah, her loved ones and her legal team to prove that evil Theo wasn't an innocent victim.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards 2026, Gareth confirmed that Todd will be among those to give evidence.
Asked if he's involved, Gareth said: "Yeah, I will be! There's quite a few of us, when it was unclear who had done it, who were potentially in the frame – and I suppose are now potentially witnesses for that evening and what happened.
"[They're also] witnesses for the character that Theo was in the lead-up to it. That will form a big part of Sarah's defence – that it was an act of self-defence."
In the meantime, Todd has been supporting unlikely friend Kit Green following the police detective's breast cancer diagnosis.

Todd was the first person that Kit chose to confide in, although he's since told his family the truth too.
Asked whether the new friendship will continue, Gareth told us: "I hope so, I've loved it as well! As actors in the show, we're always excited when we get time to play a friendship.
"The very nature of how fast the show moves means that quite often you're moving plot along, so when there is space for unlikely friendships, it's always great.
"It also brings out something new in you as actors as well. Providing you're listening and you're reactive, you will always end up surprising yourself, and hopefully your co-actor, when you have those scenes together."

He added: "It's a nice friendship where they're not instant mates – similar, I suppose, to what happened with Todd and Paul when Peter Ash was still in the show. There were lots of ways in which they were rivals.
"There's that sense that they're [Todd and Kit] not natural friends and I think that's always more interesting."
