Ziyad falls short of Asian Para Games gold medal defence

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: National para athletics icon Ziyad Zolkefli failed to retain his gold medal in the men's shot put F20 event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games on Friday.

The 36-year-old's best throw of 16.61m at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium saw him miss out on a fourth consecutive gold medal, having previously won the title in Incheon 2014, Jakarta 2018 and Hangzhou 2022.

Ali Bader of Saudi Arabia claimed the gold medal with a new Games record of 17.08m, surpassing Ziyad's previous mark of 16.94m set at the 2018 Jakarta Games.

Fellow Malaysian Aliff Awi secured the bronze medal with a throw of 14.45m.
