Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to keep their Carling Knockout Cup campaign on track when they face Siwelele FC in a quarter-final clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.
Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00, with Amakhosi chasing a place in the semi-finals and another step towards a record-extending 14th title.
Kaizer Chiefs are the most successful club in the competition’s history, having won the trophy 13 times.
The Soweto giants booked their place in the last eight with a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Round of 16.
Wandile Duba was the star of the show, scoring all three goals in a hat-trick that was the first by a Kaizer Chiefs player in the competition since 1987.
KAIZER Chiefs have recent advantage over Siwelele
Sunday’s encounter will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs, with their previous three clashes all taking place in the league.
Each team has recorded one victory, while the other meeting ended in a goalless draw last season.
Kaizer Chiefs won the most recent encounter, beating Siwelele 3-2 at home in September.
This will be their first meeting in cup competition.
Kaizer Chiefs have also avoided defeat in their two previous home matches against Siwelele, recording one victory and one draw.
Different routes to the last eight
Kaizer Chiefs reached the quarter-finals after their impressive win over TS Galaxy, while Siwelele had to negotiate a penalty shoot-out against Polokwane City.
The sides played to a 0-0 draw before Siwelele progressed from the spot to reach the Knockout Cup quarter-finals for the first time.
Duba will have another opportunity to make history. If he scores on Sunday, he will become the first Kaizer Chiefs player since Eric Mathoho in the 2015/16 campaign to score in the club’s opening two rounds of the competition.
KAIZER Chiefs’ impressive Knockout Cup history
Amakhosi have a long record of success in the competition’s knockout stages.
They have reached the semi-finals 22 times previously and will be targeting a 23rd appearance in the last four.
Their most recent quarter-final outing ended in defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in 2024/25.
Kaizer Chiefs also reached the semi-finals in three successive tournaments between 2017/18 and 2019/20.
Their biggest quarter-final victory since 1996/97 was a 4-0 home win over Dynamos in 2004.
Kaizer Chiefs have also featured in 16 League Cup penalty shoot-outs since 1996/97, winning 13 and losing three. Four of their quarter-final ties during that period have been decided on penalties.
For Siwelele, Sunday’s match represents an opportunity to reach the semi-finals for the first time and continue an impressive debut run in the competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have already reached the semi-finals.
The fourth and final quarter-final clash will take place between Stellenbosch FC and AmaZulu, also on Sunday, 8 November at 18:00.
