Mike Flanagn has a lot more story to tell with Carrie.

Flanagan's modern take on Stephen King's 1974 novel is led by Summer H. Howell as the eponymous teen outcast who, following the sudden death of her father, begins going to a public high school, quickly exposed to the highs and lows of teenage social circles, all while discovering new telepathic powers. Also starring Samantha Sloyan, Matthew Lillard and Siena Agudong, Carrie scored largely positive reviews from critics, netting an 85% "Certified Fresh" approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

After becoming a critical and viewership hit for the streamer, Prime Video has officially announced that Carrie has been renewed for season 2. Developed by Mike Flanagan, the Stephen King adaptation immediately became a No. 1 hit on the streaming platform, with the showrunner, King and Amazon MGM's Head of Global Television Peter Friedlander writing about the renewal in the following statements:

Peter Friedlander: Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers. It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan's reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We're excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.

Mike Flanagan: For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.

Stephen King: I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.
