The X-Files Is Officially Back: Hulu Picks Up Ryan Coogler Reboot to Series

Translate

We’ll find the truth eventually at this rate, as Hulu has picked up Ryan Coogler’s reboot of The X-Files to series. The new take on the beloved Fox sci-fi drama, starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, will launch at an unspecified date.

According to the official release, this new X-Files is “a reimagining of the classic” that “follows two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.” Will Deadwyler be the believer and Patel be the skeptic? Or will it go the other way around? Just one of many mysteries to be solved. The pilot also features a wild assortment of guest stars, including Amy Madigan and Steve Buscemi.

Said Coogler in a statement, “I’ve loved The X-Files for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me. What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.”

The press release also confirms that Coogler’s longtime collaborator/Oscar winner/past Consequence Composer of the Year Ludwig Göransson contributed the score for the pilot, following in the footsteps of the late Mark Snow, who handled the music for the show’s original and reboot runs.

Coogler wrote, directed, and executive produced the pilot, with Jennifer Yale serving as showrunner for the series. (Which makes sense, as Coogler is also now committed to directing Black Panther III for Marvel.)
