Jannik Sinner withdraws from China Open, delays return from injury

Jannik Sinner has confirmed that he will not take part in the China Open 2026, further delaying his comeback to professional tennis.
The 25-year-old has not played since defending his Wimbledon title in July, missing multiple Masters events as well as the US Open with a knee injury.
In a video posted on social media, Sinner said, “I’m very sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play in Beijing this year. My knee is not quite where I want it to be , and I am not quite ready to compete yet, but I will do everything possible to be on court as soon as I can.”
“I’ve had a great time in the past winning the title last year, and I’m disappointed not to defend it this year but I am excited to be back next year.”
Sinner is the current champion of the China Open, having defeated American Learner Tien in straight sets in the final.
