MTN8: ‘Moses Mabhida Stadium doesn’t pay bribes to host finals’

Translate

EThekwini Municipality City Manager Musa Mbhele has refuted claims that they pay bribes to bring Cup finals to the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The iconic venue will once again host the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns on 10 October.

Kick-off is at 18:00.

This will be the 11th MTN8 final that will be hosted at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium since MTN8 took over as sponsors.

Now, addressing the media on Thursday, Mbhele said MTN as sponsors know that their brand will do well whenever they take their events to Durban.

Mbhele said people generally love Durban, and they always want to be in the city especially when there are events like the one between Pirates and Sundowns on 10 October.

MTN8: MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM NOT BRIBING ANYONE TO HOST CUP FINALS

“I may sound arrogant but it’s the only way I can put it, we’re not so desperate to boost tourism to such an extent that we can do unethical things like that (bribing),” said Mbhele.

“We are a big, if not one of the biggest tourist destinations. People think of coming to come to Durban when there’s an event of like the one of the 10th of October.

“We do not pay to host these matches. People love Durban because of the electric atmosphere here. We are the destination of choice.

“MTN themselves know that their brand will do well because we’re one of the largest metros. Accommodation establishments are there, beaches and other things,” he added.
