The Gombe State Government has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of new Nigerian Army formations in the state.
The government said the development would strengthen national security, improve military presence and enhance the protection of lives and property across Gombe and the North-East.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters and Intergovernmental Affairs, Yusuf Danbayo, disclosed this in a statement obtained by Arewa PUNCH on Monday.
Danbayo said the establishment of the 27 Armoured Brigade and its subordinate units followed the ongoing expansion and restructuring of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions.
He said the Brigade Headquarters and its Garrison were proposed for Gombe town, while the 271 Tank Battalion would be established in Bajoga and the 272 Tank Battalion in Kaltungo.
According to him, the new formations would improve the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army in the state and neighbouring areas.
He noted, “The establishment of the 27 Armoured Brigade and its subordinate units in Gombe State represents a significant milestone in strengthening national security, improving military presence and enhancing the protection of lives and property across the state and the wider North-East region.”
Danbayo added that the development would also enhance rapid response to emerging security challenges and support counter-insurgency and other security operations.
“This strategic development will further strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army in Gombe State and neighbouring areas, enhance rapid response to emerging security challenges, support counter-insurgency and other security operations, and contribute significantly to the maintenance of peace, stability and sustainable development,” Yahaya’s SSA remarked.

The governor’s aide described the decision as an indication of the federal government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and bringing security institutions closer to communities.
“We sincerely commend and appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for this important and far-reaching decision,” Danbayo said.
He also commended Governor Muhammadu Yahaya for what he described as his administration’s consistent prioritisation of security, peacebuilding, intergovernmental collaboration for the welfare of the people.
“We equally acknowledge with deep appreciation the persistent efforts and commitment of His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, Dan Majen Gombe, whose administration has consistently prioritised security, peacebuilding, intergovernmental collaboration and the welfare of the people of Gombe State,” he said.
Danbayo pointed out that the residents had long looked forward to a stronger and more permanent military presence to complement the efforts of other security agencies.
He described the establishment of the formations as “a source of great joy and reassurance” to the people of the state, maintaining that the development was not only beneficial to Gombe but also, it represented a strategic investment in the security and stability of the North-East and Nigeria.
“The establishment of the 27 Armoured Brigade, 271 Tank Battalion in Bajoga and 272 Tank Battalion in Kaltungo is not only a victory for Gombe State but also a strategic investment in the security and stability of the North-East and Nigeria as a whole,” Danbayo stated.
He expressed appreciation to the federal government, the Nigerian Army leadership, security agencies and other stakeholders for their contributions to strengthening the state’s security architecture.
Danbayo, while also praying for the protection and success of the president, the governor, the Armed Forces and other security personnel serving the country, assured the residents that the state government remained committed to supporting initiatives aimed at building a safer, more peaceful and prosperous Gombe State.
