Ryan Gosling’s Band Dead Man’s Bones Release First New Song in 17 Years: Stream

Dead Man’s Bones, the horror-inspired alt-rock duo of Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, have shared “Lost in the Night,” their first new song since 2009.

It may have been 17 years since their last effort, but Gosling and Shields have not lost their gothic grandeur; “Lost in the Night,” with its atmospheric glow and eerie overtones, is wholly in line with the band’s spooky self-titled debut, albeit with more synths and a Springsteen-esque wandering from Gosling on the mic. Throughout, Gosling yearns for his lover’s return, asking that they “chase it all away,” “break this spell on us,” and “call for me.” The track also arrives with a video starring Rain Spencer and Noah Jupe, and it’s a bit of a sharp contrast to the song’s mysterious vibe; in fact, it’s kind of romantic and sweet. The return of Dead Man’s Bones arrives just in time for Halloween; Gosling’s wife, Eva Mendes, teased the band’s return on Instagram earlier this month. Per a press release, Gosling and Shields recorded “Lost in the Night” at a farm outside Los Angeles in one day. It remains unconfirmed whether more new music is on the way from the pair.

Gosling is winding down a busy year, having starred in this summer’s blockbuster space film Project Hail Mary. In 2027, he’ll play the lead role in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter. As for Shields, it was recently announced that he’ll be penning the upcoming Weapons prequel Gladys, set for release in 2028.
