She’s one of the world’s most famous women. So perhaps it’s understandable that Kim Kardashian is drawn to the clothes of those who are even more renowned than she is.

From Jackie Kennedy’s Cartier watch to Princess Diana’s diamond cross necklace, her wardrobe is stuffed with fashion pieces of priceless historical value.

And now eagle-eyed viewers of her latest show are wondering whether she’s snapped up yet another iconic item.

For Ms Kardashian, 45, was seen on the set of her TV series All’s Fair – in which she plays the head of an all-female divorce firm – wearing what looks like the Scorpio Evening Cape once famously worn by Elizabeth Taylor.

Featuring an ivory silk lining, dramatic hood and two scorpions embroidered on the chest, the garment, designed by Tiziani Roma, was originally worn by the late Hollywood star to Grace Kelly’s 40th birthday party in 1969.

Then, Ms Taylor accessorised it with her Taylor-Burton necklace, featuring a pear-shaped 69.42-carat diamond. So valuable was it that in 1979, after divorcing Richard Burton for a second time, Ms Taylor sold it to jeweller Mouawad for £3.8million – £17.4million now.

While the images show Ms Kardashian wearing a strikingly similar necklace on set, it’s unlikely that even her estimated £64million fortune would let her afford such a staggeringly pricey piece.

Not that she wouldn’t want to – in 2001 she snapped up three diamond and jade Lorraine Schwartz bracelets that belonged to Ms Taylor for £49,000, saying: ‘She’s my idol and my icon.’

The reality star also graced a Paris catwalk last July in the screen legend’s £300,000 diamond chandelier earrings. Whether the All’s Fair cape is the real deal is another matter.

It was auctioned in 2011 by Christie’s, as part of an Elizabeth Taylor Collection sale, for $74,500. While small change for Ms Kardashian, it’s unclear whether she won the item, bought it privately afterwards or is wearing a replica.

In 2022, the entrepreneur caused a scandal by attending New York’s Met Gala in a diamanté Jean Louis gown, famously worn by Marilyn Monroe to serenade President John F Kennedy in 1962.

It was loaned to Ms Kardashian by Ripley’s museum, with Ms Kardashian dieting to squeeze into it. While she changed into a replica later in the evening, historians argued that the original’s delicate fabric had been damaged.

If it transpires that her cape is Ms Taylor’s original, some may say she has committed another crime of sorts. But as her TV character would no doubt argue, All’s Fair in love and fashion.
