BI logs 200 cross-border QRIS transactions at 2026 Mandalika MotoGP

Mataram, NTB (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia’s (BI) West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Representative Office recorded 200 cross-border digital transactions using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) during the 2026 Indonesian MotoGP held on October 9–11.
Head of BI's NTB Representative Office Hario Pamungkas said cross-border digital payments aim to provide seamless financial transactions for international travelers while expanding the province's digital economy.
"Cross-border payment connectivity is vital to delivering practical, efficient payment solutions for both international consumers and local merchants," Pamungkas said in a statement released here on Wednesday.
Throughout the race weekend, the central bank partnered with state-owned lender PT Bank Mandiri to roll out the "QRIS Experience" campaign and provide digital payment infrastructure across the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok District, NTB Province.
The initiative introduced foreign spectators to Indonesia’s unified digital payment ecosystem. The cross-border QRIS framework allows international visitors to pay for local goods and services simply by scanning merchant QR codes using their domestic mobile banking or e-wallet apps, and vice versa.
The cross-border QR payment service currently links Indonesia with partner countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, with ongoing implementations and trials involving Japan, South Korea, and China.
Pamungkas emphasized that broadening cashless transaction channels at high-profile international sporting events accelerates digital adoption across the regional tourism sector.
"The utilization of the cashless payment system is part of efforts to expand the use of digital transactions in international tourism events," he emphasized.
Pamungkas added that the true benchmark of success for an international event is measured not only by smooth trackside execution, but also by the tangible economic impact and benefits delivered to the local community.
