Chamberlain, P-G runners claim individual titles at SESD cross country meet
Oct. 6—PLANKINTON, S.D. — Runners from Chamberlain and Platte-Geddes won the individual titles at the Southeast South Dakota Conference cross country meet on Monday at Fish Lake Golf Course.
In the girls race, Chamberlain's Grace Phillips won the varsity title by nearly 2 minutes, crossing the finish line in a time of 19 minutes, 32.7 seconds. Platte-Geddes' Berklee Mills was second (21:12.6) and Bon Homme's Claire Guthmiller was third (21:34.1) and the Cubs' Sasha Van Den Bosch was fourth (21:48.3) and Platte-Geddes' Marlee Meyerink (22:05.7) and Ella Holter (22:28.0) took fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Chamberlain won the team title with 19 points, followed by Platte-Geddes with 28 points, Ethan/Parkston with 65 points and Burke with 67 points.
In the boys race, Platte-Geddes junior Walter Graesser won the individual title in 17:39.9. Chamberlain's Lindy Cosgrove (18:00.4) was second and teammate Liam Gill was fourth (18:27.9), bookended around Wagner's Grady Bartunek, who was third in the race (18:05.4). Mount Vernon/Plankinton's Hudson Schmidt took fifth place (19:03.9). Boys team point totals were not available at the time of the writing of this story.
Many of the Class A teams in the meet will compete in the region cross country meets on Thursday, Oct. 15. Bon Homme, Ethan/Parkston and Wagner will compete at Lenkota Golf Course near Lennox, while the rest of the conference's Class A teams will be at Chamberlain Country Club in Oacoma for the Region 4A meet. Burke and Gregory will compete in the Region 3B meet on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Valley View Golf Course in Freeman.
