Shell aura une participation 30 % au projet pétrolier Bay du Nord à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador

La société norvégienne Equinor a conclu un accord prévoyant l’acquisition par Shell d’une participation de 30 % dans le projet pétrolier Bay du Nord, prévu au large des côtes de Terre-Neuve.

Equinor précise qu’elle conservera une participation opérationnelle de 70 % dans Bay du Nord, qui constituerait le premier projet d’exploitation pétrolière en eaux profondes au Canada.

Cette nouvelle intervient environ trois mois après que le géant pétrolier britannique BP a annoncé avoir signé un accord pour céder sa participation de 37,2 % dans le projet.

Equinor devrait se prononcer au début de l’année prochaine sur la poursuite du projet, évalué à 14 milliards de dollars.

Le dirigeant d’Equinor, Philippe Mathieu, affirme par communiqué de presse que ce nouveau partenariat avec Shell renforce le projet alors qu’il s’apprête à prendre cette décision finale d’investissement.

Le projet Bay du Nord serait établi dans des eaux situées à environ 500 kilomètres à l’est de St. John’s, à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, et serait l’installation pétrolière la plus éloignée des côtes au monde.
