Malappuram FC just cannot stop scoring these days. After netting four goals and conceding none against Thrissur Magic in the last match, Malappuram struck three against Kannur Warriors on Monday night.

The 3-0 victory came in front of a full house at the Payyanad Stadium. With its second successive win in the Super League Kerala, Malappuram has taken its tally to eight points, three behind leaders Forca Kochi and Calicut FC.

At the halfway mark of the league, Kannur is placed fourth with seven points. It was indeed a match to forget for the men from Kannur. They had conceded just three goals in their four previous matches; they let in that many in this game.

That was because of some enterprising, attacking football played by the home team. Malappuram was led from the front by the captain Amadou Soukouna, who opened the scoring in the 19th minute. He raced to the box after receiving the ball from Abdel Elforsy and beat the defence to make the crowd of about 30,000 roar.

Kannur tried hard to get back into the game and made some promising moves too, but received a big setback in first-half injury time. Muhamed Mahdi pierced the defence firmly from the edge of the box, making it 2-0 for Malappuram.

After the break, K. Rashid made it 3-0 for Malappuram, ensuring there would be no comeback for Kannur.

The result:

Malappuram FC 3 (Amadou Soukouna 19, Muhamed Mahdi 45+3, K. Rashid 66) bt Kannur Warriors 0.
