'Sardar 2' OTT review: 'Good movie, wrong audience,' Fans hail Karthi and PS Mithran's spy thriller after its digital release

'Sardar 2' is getting a very different response after its OTT release. The Karthi-starrer had turned out to be a box-office disappointment during its theatrical run, with the film facing largely negative reactions and criticism over its long runtime, screenplay, music, and visual effects.

However, the Amazon Prime Video release has given the spy thriller a fresh audience, with several viewers now questioning whether the film was judged too harshly in theatres.

Karthi’s 'Sardar 2' wins praise from OTT viewers

The change in opinion became noticeable soon after 'Sardar 2' began streaming on Prime Video. Several viewers took to social media to share positive reactions after watching the film at home. One viewer wrote, “To me this movie was pretty decent and very much watchable.

Only letdown I felt was its runtime.” Another fan questioned the film’s theatrical failure, saying, “How did Sardar 2 flop? Leaving some visuals like those car scenes, everything was pretty good.

” The reactions suggest that the film is finding a more receptive audience on OTT.

'Sardar 2' action and Karthi’s characterisation get appreciation

Karthi’s performance and the way the sequel connects with the first 'Sardar' have also received praise. A viewer highlighted the “'Sardar' characterisation” and said its connection to the first film was impressive.

Another fan called it “a fast-paced action thriller very neatly presented”, while admitting that the film has some flaws. The spy elements, action scenes and the character of Sardar have emerged as the main positives in several OTT reactions.

At the same time, viewers continue to point out the lengthy runtime, music and some of the visual effects as areas that could have been improved.

'Sardar 2' OTT response raises questions over theatre reception

The renewed interest has also started a discussion about the film’s theatrical fate.

Some viewers feel that the negative word of mouth was much stronger than the actual problems in the movie. One fan summed up the sentiment by saying, “Good Movie. Wrong Audience.” Another viewer felt that trimming around 15 to 20 minutes could have made 'Sardar 2' a much stronger experience. With the film now gaining positive attention on OTT and trending strongly after its digital release, Karthi’s sequel appears to be getting the second chance it missed in theatres.
