Divorce dispute believed to be motive for nurse stabbing, say police

Translate

KOTA BARU: Police believe a dispute over divorce led to a 44-year-old nurse being stabbed six times by her husband at their home in Kampung Padang Lepai near Kadok on Monday night.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said this was based on statements given by the victim's family members shortly after a report was lodged.

He said initial investigations found that the 47-year-old suspect was unhappy with his wife's decision to seek a divorce.

"This allegedly caused the suspect to become aggressive and stab the victim repeatedly, striking her six times on the body and neck," he said when contacted.

Yusoff said the suspect also had four previous criminal records, including three related to narcotics and one other criminal offence.

It was reported that the nurse was seriously injured after being stabbed six times by her husband at their home in Kampung Padang Lepai near Kadok on Monday.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) and is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, who surrendered to police after the incident, was remanded for seven days from Tuesday to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
