BBC reported the news, sharing that Jeremy Thomas passed away at his home in Oxfordshire on Friday. His publicist confirmed the news in an official statement, sharing that he "passed away peacefully" and was surrounded by his family and loved ones at the time. No other details about his passing were shared with the public at the time of writing.

Tributes pour in for Jeremy Thomas

Soon after the news of his passing circulated online, tributes and well wishes for the late star started pouring in.Thomas’ co-star from ‘Tideland’ and ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,' Terry Gilliam, issued a statement to Variety about the veteran’s passing and shared, “Jeremy Thomas loved making movies. He loved every aspect of the business, but most of all he loved directors. The list of those he worked with is almost endless, and I was one of the lucky ones. His taste in filmmaking spanned the globe.” He further added, “Filmmaking is not cheap, and the pressures are intense, but Jeremy always remained calm and supportive.

He was a rare and very unique gem in the world of producers.”Producer Stephen Woolley looked back on the time he met the producer for the first time and shared, “Jeremy Thomas was the person in 1981 in Japan who didn’t suggest but insisted that I be a film producer!!!! He was a huge inspiration and a massively undervalued genius and necessary rebel in our industry… he sided with the subversives and movie anarchists, and we loved him dearly… and I have to thank him for my career following in similar footsteps, avoiding nationalistic stereotypes and embracing the world of cinema.

Who was Jeremy Thomas

Jeremy Thomas was a well-known producer, filmmaker, and editor who dedicated around five decades of his life to the film industry. Jeremy Thomas was born on July 26, 1949, in London, England. He came from a film background, as his father was director Ralph Thomas, who worked on many ‘Doctor’ films. His uncle Gerald Thomas was well known for directing all the films in the ‘Carry On’ franchise.He was a pioneering force in the film industry, backing indie projects and working with several renowned directors throughout his career.

This included names like Nagisa Oshima, David Cronenberg, Julien Temple, Ben Wheatley, Jonathan Glazer, Stephen Frears, David Mackenzie, and Nicolas Roeg, to name a few. He was also a well-decorated producer in the film industry who won around nine Academy Awards over the past five decades.

Some of his other work included projects like ‘The Sheltering Sky,' ‘Little Buddha,' ‘Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence,' ‘A Dangerous Method,' ‘Bad Method,' 'Eureka,' ‘The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle,' ‘Stealing Beauty,' and ‘The Dreamers.'
