Marvel Announces New MCU Spider-Man Sequel Series Ahead Of Peter Parker's Return

The MCU's next Spider-Man solo project is an interquel that sets up the next chapter of Peter Parker's long-form story. Tom Holland's Spider-Man is one of the most intricately developed characters in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe despite entering the franchise pretty late in the game, and despite the fact that it's much more logistically difficult for him to appear in supporting roles or cameos across other projects. In the span of nine years, Holland's Peter Parker has starred in four solo movies and three Avengers crossovers, only rivaled by Thor's fifteen-year MCU journey.

Marvel circumvents the glaring lack of live-action Spider-Man appearances and standalone television shows between major blockbuster releases through animated series. While Marvel can't produce live-action Spider-Man television content without direct collaboration with Sony, animated Spider-Man series are fair game. Animated Spider-Man appearances like What If...?, Marvel Zombies, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man provide classic Spidey fanfare, vibrant rogue's gallery adaptations, and fresh alternate-universe storytelling in between Tom Holland's big-screen appearances, all without affecting the overarching storylines established by the movies.

Following the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel will continue to place the spotlight on Peter Parker, both in Avengers crossovers and in animated shows like Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2.

Ahead of the animated series' release in January 2027, Marvel officially announces a four-part Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2's comic prequel, which sets up its plot and introduces characters who may play a key role later down the line. Plot details are scarce, but the comic interquel sees Peter Parker and his friends solve a mystery at Oscorp when they discover something sinister may be going on behind the scenes. The first issue of the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 comic is available for purchase December 9, 2026.

The upcoming Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 is penned by Civil War: Unmasked and Battleworld writer Christos Gage, and illustrated by Marvel Rivals comics artist and Sort of Super author Eric Gapstur. Gage and Gapstur also collaborated for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's first comic continuation in 2024, a four-part prequel series that provided a glimpse at Peter Parker's earlier adventures wearing a prototype suit in this continuity, and featured characters like Crusher Hogan, Silvermane, and the Enforcers.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 Kicks Into Gear

Several Major Spider-Man Characters Are Playing Important Roles

Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 is set to focus on Peter Parker's symbiote storyline and introduce its own take on Eddie Brock, voiced by Josh Keaton. Promotional first looks reveal Eddie Brock in a tense encounter with Harry Osborn, which teases a new version of the conflict between the symbiote and its first human hosts. Beyond the alien threat, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 also features Doctor Octopus as a main antagonist alongside Norman Osborn, leaving Spider-Man caught directly in the crossfire.

Spidey's rogues gallery will also grow with the addition of classic threats like the Lizard and a comic-accurate Rhino, alongside the return of Scorpion and Chameleon. To balance this villainous surge, Peter receives support from a returning Daredevil, with MCU Matt Murdock actor Charlie Cox reprising his voice role from season 1, as well as the debut of Gwen Stacy, who looks set to adopt her Ghost-Spider mantle. Other characters and subplots from the second season of the animated show will be more clear after the four-issue season 2 prequel is released.
