BCCI appoints ex-national selectors to pick Bihar's teams

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has deputed a three-member selection committee, headed by former India seamer Harvinder Singh and including ex-first-class cricketers Sridharan Sharath (Tamil Nadu) and Amitabh Vijayvargiya (Madhya Pradesh), to Bihar to pick the squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy, which will kick off on October 11, TOI has learnt.Harvinder and Sharath, who was also the junior chief selector, have been senior national selectors in the past.
To pick Bihar's junior teams for the BCCI's various age-group tournaments — Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 — the BCCI has formed a three-member selection committee comprising ex-national junior selector Harvinder Singh Sodhi, former Punjab allrounder Krishan Mohan and former Gujarat wicketkeeper Pathik Patel.“All the selectors have reached Patna today and begun their work of identifying talented local cricketers at the Moin-Ul-Haq Stadium in Patna,” a source tracking developments said.On September 16, the Supreme Court appointed former Patna High Court judge Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh as the administrator of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA).
Before the last season too, the BCCI had appointed a four-member selection committee to pick various age-group teams for the Board's tournaments.
That committee included former India chief selector Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh, ex-India pacer Salil Ankola, and former India women's team left-arm spinner and national chief selector Neetu David.Promoted to the Elite Group, Bihar will take on Uttar Pradesh in their Ranji Trophy opener at Rajgir. Their other opponents in Elite Group A are Baroda, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Vidarbha and Puducherry.
