Asos app users sent 'hacked' message from online retailer

Translate

Asos shoppers have been sent a phone notification claiming the online fashion retailer has been hacked and data "compromised".

Users of the Asos mobile app were sent the message on Tuesday night, with the headline "ASOS HACKED".

"We have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it," the message read.

The UK company saw its share price slump more than 10 per cent on the London Stock Exchange following the alert.

Snowflake is a cloud-based data platform that companies use to store, process and analyse data including transactions.

Its website said it has more than 12,000 customers around the world.

Asos has not yet officially responded to the message and claim it had been hacked.

But the site's AI chatbot told the ABC it was investigating the incident.

"We're aware of the notification and are currently investigating," it said.

"We don't have any further information to share at this stage, but we'll provide an update as soon as we know more."
