Tyler wrote an op-ed for Reader’s Digest where he opened up about his mental health issues and struggles with alcoholism. The daytime star often spoke about his tussles with anxiety and bipolar disorder. He was open about working with a psychiatrist and therapist to treat his mental health.

He even admitted that he lost both his jobs at General Hospital and Days of Our Lives due to his alcohol addiction. “I suffered from delirium tremens, the most severe form of alcohol withdrawal, and almost died after falling and hitting my head on a bathtub,” he divulged in his explosive op-ed.

The incident fractured his skull and caused bleeding in his brain. He had to undergo life-saving surgery. In 2020, Tyler’s sister filed a petition to put him under guardianship. Later, the actor accused her of taking advantage of him. He alleged that his sister used the reimbursement for her own benefit.
Tyler claimed that she used the money to pay off her credit card debt and her own personal expenses. He explained, “I was essentially shielded from the outside world. Being isolated allowed the mania associated with my bipolar disorder to come into full effect, and I wasn’t able to stop it,” and added that it felt like he would live an entire day and never really be satisfied with it.

In October 2023, the actor was found dead in his bedroom. The medical report revealed that acute alcohol intoxication caused positional asphyxia, and Tyler suffocated as a result of it. He was 50 years old when he died. He was married to Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004 and Brienne Pedigo from 2008 to 2021. Tyler has two children, a son and a daughter.
