David Fincher has multiple movies finding success on HBO Max right now, and his domination of the streaming service is starting at the perfect time for the Hollywood icon, as he prepares to return to the medium. Fincher's list of movies and TV shows includes several classics, which is to be expected. After all, Fincher is widely regarded as one of the best directors of all time. Through movies like Fight Club, The Social Network, Gone Girl, and more, Fincher has shown how gritty dramas and thrillers are easily among the best movies in Hollywood history. On streaming, he has also found success.
That comes not only through old movies trending on different streaming services in the United States and internationally, but also through streaming exclusives. Looking at Netflix's roster of TV shows, Fincher both directed episodes and served as an executive producer on the political thriller House of Cards and the adult animated anthology Love, Death + Robots. Fincher also served in those same roles for the psychological crime thriller series Mindhunter, as well as overseeing the whole production. Before he returns to Netflix with a new release, Fincher is seeing two of his biggest R-rated thrillers, Zodiac and Se7en, find new life on HBO Max internationally.
David Fincher Is Taking Over HBO Max's Global Top 10
At the time of writing, both Zodiac and Se7en have entered HBO Max's global Top 10 Movies chart, according to data from FlixPatrol. Zodiac currently stands as the 10th most-watched movie on HBO Max worldwide, while Se7en has become the 8th most popular film on the streaming service around the world. None of the R-rated crime thriller movies directed by Fincher are currently available to stream on HBO Max in the United States. Instead, US viewers who want to catch the two Fincher movies, Zodiac and Se7en, on the same streaming service can turn to Paramount+ or Fubo, according to JustWatch.
Between the two Fincher crime thrillers on HBO Max's global chart is In the Lost Lands, a Dave Bautista dark fantasy movie. The coveted streaming chart also features movies like DC's Supergirl, the sci-fi classic Men in Black, the hilarious comedy Superbad, and more. Right now, HBO Max's #1 movie worldwide is the 2026 horror film Evil Dead Burn. According to FlixPatrol data, Zodiac is trending on HBO Max in 13 countries, ranking as high as 3rd in 10 of those nations. As for Se7en, the Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman crime thriller is trending in 14 countries, being HBO Max's #2 movie in 12 of them.
What Does Fincher Have On The Horizon?
Fincher's HBO Max domination in several countries starts just as the director is ready to make a streaming comeback on Netflix in a couple of months. That new release is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, penned by Tarantino, but directed by Fincher. The Netflix dramedy reunites Fincher with long-time collaborator Pitt, who returns as Cliff Booth. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth first goes on a limited two-week theatrical run starting on November 25, before arriving on Netflix on December 23, and it should continue David Fincher's newfound streaming success.
