Gleeks, this is not a drill - Glee is officially being rebooted for a brand new series, and its streaming home has been confirmed. What's more, at least one of its headline stars is allegedly in talks to reprise their role.

The musical comedy series originally aired from 2009 to 2015, spanning 121 episodes across six seasons.

It made huge stars out of the likes of Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Kevin McHale, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr, Alex Newell, Jenna Ushkowitz and the late Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera.

Now, it's been announced on the show's official Instagram account that it "is returning", and it'll be coming via Disney+ and Hulu.

According to Deadline, one person who is believed to be in talks to return is Michele, who played Rachel Berry.

The news comes after creator Ryan Murphy spoke openly last month about chatting to the show's stars about plans to revive the series, telling Entertainment Tonight: "So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.

"I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea."

The show also starred the likes of Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch and Jayma Mays as staff at the fictional William McKinley High School, and Deadline adds that Morrison for one is not currently in talks to return.

Glee was a cultural phenomenon upon its launch, receiving generally favourable reviews - particularly for its first two seasons. It also won a total of six Primetime Emmy and Creative Emmy Awards, including Jane Lynch for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and Guest Actor and Guest Actress gongs for Neil Patrick Harris and Gwyneth Paltrow respectively.

Lynch also won a Golden Globe, as did Colfer, and the show won Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy at that ceremony twice.

Details such as potential storylines and release dates are yet to be revealed.
