Yellow Level 2 warning: Heavy rain, hail and severe storms threaten two provinces

Translate

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, while extremely high fire danger threatens three other provinces.

Residents in north-western KwaZulu-Natal and the Highveld of Mpumalanga should prepare for severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and lightning.

Severe storms expected in two province

SAWS warns that the storms could cause localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and places that struggle to drain water during heavy rainfall.

Strong winds and hail could also damage homes, buildings and other infrastructure.

Motorists travelling through affected areas should take extra care, as heavy rain could reduce visibility and make some roads difficult to navigate.

Residents should avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges and seek shelter indoors when thunderstorms develop.

Extremely high fire danger in three province

SAWS has warned of extremely high fire danger in places across parts of Limpopo, the Northern Cape and the western Free State.

Under these conditions, fires can start easily and spread rapidly, particularly where dry grass and vegetation provide fuel.

Residents should avoid starting open fires, burning rubbish or throwing cigarette butts into dry vegetation.

Farmers and people living near open fields should also remain alert to any signs of fire.

Residents urged to remain cautious

The contrasting warnings highlight the different weather risks affecting parts of South Africa.

While some communities may experience heavy rain, hail and strong winds, others face conditions that could encourage the rapid spread of veld fires.

Residents in affected areas should follow the latest SAWS updates and take precautions to protect themselves, their homes and their property.

Weather conditions can change quickly, making it important to stay informed throughout the warning period.
