Spider-Man: Brand New Day is getting a cinema re-release with unseen footage

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set for a cinema re-release with additional footage, as Tom Holland's latest outing as Peter Parker stands to become the first-ever movie to gross $1 billion domestically.

Released at the end of July, Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of No Way Home. No one remembers that Peter is actually Spider-Man due to Doctor Strange's spell, leaving our web-slinging superhero to pine for his ex MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) while battling an insidious new enemy played by Sadie Sink.

It now seems that the new cinema re-release will give fans the chance to watch some scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor, including one with Rosario Dawson's character Claire Temple (via Deadline).

The actor previously explained that she filmed a cameo as Claire, a nurse who helps vigilantes and has previously featured in Marvel series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Defenders. However, her scene was cut, with Brand New Day co-writer Chris McKenna calling Dawson "great" and explaining the decision was due to time constraints.

"If anything, you have a movie that is two-and-a-half hours long, and it's almost an embarrassment of riches with so many great characters and scenes," he told The Wrap.

Following in the footsteps of Marvel re-releasing Avengers: Endgame with additional footage ahead of Doomsday this December, Spider-Man is now prolonging its stay in cinemas, though it isn't clear when the extended Brand New Day cut will debut on the big screen.

Among other things, Endgame Encore undid Steve Rogers' happy ending with Peggy Carter as the couple is visited in the past by Loki, setting the scene for Chris Evans' very own Captain America to appear in Doomsday.

Meanwhile, Endgame and Doomsday co-director Anthony Russo weighed in on the new scenes of Endgame Encore right after a screening, telling fans: "Well, I mean you all just saw Endgame Encore, and there's certainly a pivotal moment in that film at the end, where the moment has a different meaning.

"You know, we play one beat past where Steve Rogers' story ended with Peggy Carter, and in that moment, that's sort of where Doomsday is born."
