[UPDATED] Prison Department vehicles seen at Najib's residence

KUALA LUMPUR: Two vehicles bearing the Prison Department logo were seen entering former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's residence at Langgak Duta here this morning.

The vehicles, believed to be carrying several Prison Department officers, were seen entering the compound about 9.40am.

It is learnt that the officers were there to assess the suitability of the residence as the location for Najib to serve his house arrest.

Several officers were later seen inspecting the area around the residence for about 15 minutes before re-entering the compound.

The officers were seen leaving the premises about 11.50am.

However, Najib's special officer, Ahmad Lutfi Azhar, declined to comment when met at the residence.

About 10 media personnel have also been stationed outside the residence since this morning to follow the latest developments following the decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon.

It was reported yesterday that Najib was granted house arrest for the remainder of his sentence on condition that he pays the RM50 million fine imposed following his conviction in the SRC International case.

The Federal Territories Pardons Board, in a statement, had said that Najib must comply with all conditions imposed for him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

It also said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to the conditional pardon.
