Duterte: No formal document yet to summon me to impeachment court

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte said she has not yet received a formal document summoning her as a witness to her trial before the Senate as an impeachment court.

In an interview in Quezon City on Friday morning, Duterte declined to say whether she would face the impeachment court after prosecutors said they intend to call Duterte to testify.

“Wala pa namang papel o dokumento na nagsasabing kailangan ko mag-appear as witness for the prosecution,” she said.

Duterte faces an impeachment trial in connection with her alleged misuse of confidential funds, bribery of public officials, amassing of unexplained wealth, and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and presidential cousin and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

The latter charge is also being tried criminally through a grave threats case before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 98.

On Friday, Duterte personally appeared before the Quezon City court to be arraigned, but her arraignment was deferred following a motion from her camp./coa
