Moveria Film Acquires ‘No Money No Honey,’ Documentary Set For Imminent Premiere At Camden International Film Festival

EXCLUSIVE: Moveria Film has acquired international sales rights to No Money No Honey ahead of the documentary’s world premiere at the Camden International Film Festival in Maine.
Moveria describes the film directed by Nicole Costa as “a vibrant story of friendship, migration, joy, and resilience” centering on Máxima Mauricio (she/he), “an Argentine non-binary sex worker in New York.” Daniela Camino of Mimbre Films produces along with Costa.
No Money No Honey revisits personal VHS tapes recorded by Mauricio between 1991 and 2004, according to a synopsis. “Interweaving this vibrant archival material with post-pandemic 4K footage, the film opens a fluid portal into Máxima’s memory—confronting a childhood marked by abuse and neglect while longing for her golden days across Buenos Aires, Miami, and New York.”
Lucas Besnard and Yasmin Porangaba negotiated the sales rights deal on behalf of Moveria Film, with producer Daniela Camino representing Mimbre Films.
“What really drew us to No Money No Honey was the intimacy of Máxima’s story and the way the film brings us directly into her world,” said Lucas Besnard of Paris-based Moveria Film. “I was struck by the contrast between the VHS footage of her past—with all the energy, glamour, friends, and parties—and her life in New York in 2020. Having lived in New York myself, I connected with this side of the city. Máxima is incredibly endearing, and through her story, you get a sense of a queer community and a reality that deserves to be seen and better understood. That’s what made us want to bring the film into Moveria’s catalogue.”
Ceskary Avitia of Moveria Film added, “Coming from Mexico, I know how much prejudice surrounds sex work and trans identity. What drew me to this film is that it doesn’t try to convince you of anything; it just asks you to listen to Máxima’s own voice and to the VHS tapes she filmed of her life. Through her archive, someone’s story opens up into an entire community—her friends, their world, and their shared history of trauma and resilience. Nicole Costa gives voice to a community rarely heard on screen, and everyone deserves the chance to tell their own story.”
In a statement, producer Daniela Camino of Mimbre Films commented, “Working with Moveria has been a turning point for No Money No Honey’s international debut. Their experience and personalized approach are just what a film like ours needed. We are truly confident we will reach audiences around the globe.”
No Money No Honey is programmed in Cinematic Vision Award competition at CIFF, the prestigious all-documentary festival that runs Sept. 17-20 in mid-coast Maine.
The acquisition expands Moveria’s slate of “bold, auteur-driven international cinema,” according to a release. Founded in 2025, Moveria is an independent production, international distribution, and cultural mediation company “born from a collaboration between tech developers Arnaud Schoenher and Tristan de Oliveira and arts and culture professionals Ceskary Avitia and Isotta Tassoni… Moveria Film merges custom digital tools—including modeling, automation, and optimization—with traditional film production and distribution frameworks, bringing a novel approach to cinema grounded in dialogue across diverse fields to foster new creative experiences, fresh perspectives, and bold narratives about the world around us.”
No Money No Honey, running time 80 minutes, is directed by Nicole Costa and written by Costa, Daniela Camino, and Melisa Miranda. Daniela Camino and Costa produced the film. The cast includes Máxima Mauricio Rodas, Sebastian Quiencke a.k.a. La Baronesa Ditra, Antonia Martinez, Nellie Benittez, Mila Miller, Darius M. Curry, Nirvana Garcia, and Iván Monalisa Ojeda.
