India beats China to defend Asian Games gold in Compound Women’s Team Archery

India retained gold after beating China in the Women’s Compound Team Archery final at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square on Wednesday.
The India team, comprising Chikitha Taniparthi, Prithika Pradeep and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, beat China 238-234 to finish at the top of the podium.
At World Cup Stage 4 in Madrid, the trio of Jyothi, Prithika and Chikitha clinched the women’s team silver. During that run, too, the Indians stunned Korea in the semifinal.
India at had won silver in the event in 2018 and bronze in 2014.
India also equalled the World Record score set by South Korea in the 2014 edition in Incheon.
Jyothi, who hails from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, is India’s most decorated compound archer. The 30-year-old had already won five medals, including three gold medals, heading into the current edition of the Games.
Chikitha, a 21-year-old archer from Peddapalli, Telangana, won India’s first-ever women’s individual gold medal in the compound category at the Junior World Championships.
Prithika, 17, was born in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, but raised in Pune, Maharashtra. She won gold at the 2024 Asian Cadet Championships, silver medals at last year’s World Cadet Championships and the senior Asian Championships (she lost to Jyothi in the final), and a bronze at World Cup Stage 4 in Madrid this year.
