Borno LG chair sponsors wedding for 10 couples
The Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno state, Mustapha Kukawa, has organised a mass wedding for ten couples from Baga and Doro communities in the area.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Kukawa Local Government media team said the beneficiaries are vulnerable couples from the selected communities.
According to the statement, Kukawa provided all necessary wedding requirements including dowry, Waliyyi arrangements, kolanuts, sweets and dues.
The statement reads “The Executive Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Hon. Mustapha Mohammad Kukawa presided over the mass wedding (Fatiha) sponsored by the local government for 10 vulnerable couples from Baga and Doro communities”.
“The Chairman had earlier settled all necessary requirements for the weddings for the less-privileged couples in line with Islamic injunctions, such as dowry (Sadaki), Waliyyi arrangements, kolanuts, sweets and dues for the Ulamas” It said.
The wedding according to the statement is aimed at promoting morality and preventing social vices among youths in the community.

“This kind of state-sponsored mass wedding organized by Hon. Mustapha Mohammad Kukawa is the first of its kind in recent times in Borno State, and this is the first batch the second phase will follow soon. The initiative was first introduced by the Kano State Government some years ago” It said.
“In respect of the wedding ceremony, the chairman also organised a colourful Walima in the evening where people gathered in their large number and celebrated the event and everyone enjoyed it” it added.
The statement further noted that the parents and family members of the grooms and their brides expressed profound appreciation to the Council Chairman for the gesture.
“The wedding ceremony was impressively attended by community groups and individuals who showered praises on the Chairman for this noble effort aimed at protecting the dignity of their children”
“Present at the ceremony were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Musa Mamman, councillors, local government officials, traditional leaders, Ulamas, and political loyalists, among others” the statement concluded
