‘Upgraded 2’: Camila Mendes to Return as Star and Producer for Sequel From Gulfstream, Honor Role (Exclusive)
A sequel to the Camila Mendes romantic comedy Upgraded is ready for takeoff.
Mendes is set to return for Amazon MGM Studios‘ forthcoming movie Upgraded 2, with production beginning this month in Italy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Becca Gleason helms the follow-up to the 2024 original feature, with Gulfstream Pictures and Honor Role producing the new movie.
Plot details have not yet been shared for Upgraded 2, which has a script from Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, who penned the first film. The sequel will be available worldwide on Prime Video.
Producers include Mike Karz and Bill Bindley for Gulfstream Pictures, Mendes and Rachel Matthews for Honor Role, Lena Roklin for Luber Roklin Entertainment and Piers Tempest for Tempo Production.
Upgraded starred Mendes as Ana, an art auction house intern whose path changes dramatically after she is upgraded to first class on her flight to London. Also starring Archie Renaux and Marisa Tomei, director Carlson Young’s movie launched on Prime Video in February 2024 and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Gulfstream financed the film.
Mendes has continued her relationship with Amazon MGM through features like Música and Masters of the Universe. After Mendes and Matthews executive produced the original Upgraded, the pair founded Honor Role to champion character-driven storytelling. Its features include this year’s Idiotka, in which Mendes also co-stars. Mendes and Honor Role are represented by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Hanson Jacobson.
Gulfstream’s projects with Amazon MGM include directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra’s forthcoming feature Honeymoon With Harry, which is currently in postproduction and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Kevin Costner and Sarah Pidgeon. Gulfstream and Amazon MGM’s collaboration also includes the forthcoming Goodbye Girl, starring Kiernan Shipka and Cole Sprouse, and the recent release Pretty Lethal.
Gleason made her feature directorial debut with Summer ’03, which premiered at SXSW. She is attached to direct The Netherfield Girls for Netflix and Alice Is Missing for Paramount, and she was a consulting producer on Amazon MGM’s series The Summer I Turned Pretty. Gleason is repped by CAA, James Engle at Navigation Media Group, and Jordan Rojas and Patti Felker at Felker McGinnis.
