GTA 6 Gets Official Release Date Update From Rockstar Games

The release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been tumultuous at best. Originally slated for May 2025, the game has since been delayed twice, once to May 2026 and then again to November 2026. Delays were expected, both with the enormous scope of the game facilitating more development time and the fact that a surprising number of AAA games nowadays are delayed before launch. Now, it sits with a tentative November 19, 2026, release date, something that fans have been a tad skeptical about, even after the extensive look at GTA 6 aired on Netflix and later YouTube.

Those who are eager for the November 19 release date to be true should buckle up, as Rockstar has delivered a new announcement regarding when GTA 6 will officially come out. This comes shortly after leaks seemingly confirmed GTA 6's PC port release date, something that fans have been eager to learn about since the game was first announced. Of course, everything is subject to change, even up to the very last minute, but this latest announcement should confirm a lot for fans.

Many have suspected that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed at the last minute, largely out of fear and excitement. There's an insatiable desire for this game to release, its expansive world and lofty ambitions making it many people's Game of the Year before it has even launched, and, naturally, that makes people a little trepidatious when it comes to it actually releasing. We saw the same thing happen with Cyberpunk 2077 and even, to a lesser extent, Crimson Desert earlier this year. Indeed, even former Rockstar executives have warned of further GTA 6 delays as recently as August.

However, Rockstar, which has been fairly blasé about the whole affair, remains confident that GTA 6 will indeed launch on November 19, 2026. In a new interview with Famitsu, Rockstar North's co-studio lead Rob Nelson expressed no reservations that the game would hit its targeted release date in just over a month. When asked whether the game would release in November, Nelson casually played it off and clarified that there were no plans to delay it further, stating, "it will definitely be released."

That's as good a confirmation as we'll get that Grand Theft Auto 6 will hit its new and seemingly final release date when November rolls around. It would be rather surprising for the game to be delayed any further at this point, not least because of how the recently revealed Extended Look showcased Rockstar's confidence in the project. It would also spark a rather considerable amount of backlash, not simply from the fans, but from the industry at large, as there have been so many games delayed thanks to GTA 6.

Were Grand Theft Auto 6 to be pushed into 2027, games that have been pushed back in order to avoid November as a consequence of GTA 6 would have to be pushed back further. At this point, Rockstar has a moral obligation, at the very least, to ensure that Grand Theft Auto 6 releases in November. There is also the matter of pre-orders, which went up a short while ago and have already proven to be very profitable. So, it isn't terribly surprising to see Nelson confirm Grand Theft Auto 6's release date, but it is a tad reassuring.
